Sri Venkatramana Temple Pond, Karkala

The ancient Venkatramana Temple in Karkala has a history of over 550 years. This temple also has a sacred pond associated with it.

This pond is known as Sri Pushkarni.

I'm wondering what makes a pond "sacred" and what that means. I guess you wouldn't want to swim in it.

What a beautiful pool... It looks so sacred. That must be a very holly air to breath.

Was a sacred person buried on that temple, that's why is sacred?

Very intriguing.

Water (except for floods, of course) seems to invite contemplation.

Most of the South Indian temples have ponds attached to them. Thanks for sharing this marvellous post. I wonder whether there are many ponds that are 550years old. Sounds really interesting to me. I may visit the place in my next visit to South India.
