Lakshman Jhula, Rishikesh

Lakshman Jhula in Rishikesh is the famous hanging bridge across the river Ganga. The bridge is 450 feet long and is situated at a height of 70 feet from the river.

As per mythological tales, once Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Rama, crossed river Ganga at the same site using a suspension bridge, made of jute.

Hence the bridge came to be known as ‘Lakshman Jhula’. The present bridge is a iron bridge that was built in 1939.

  5. Just beautiful Rajesh....but I tell you what, I don't think I'd be gazing up at the sky much while I walked on that bridge. I'd be watching my feet and hanging on for dear life probably!

  7. This puts my swinging bridges of our county to shame. Oh, my goodness...I an not the least bit afraid of bridges like this, but I would not like to be on there with kids who start jumping up and down. Awesome captures. genie

  28. I think I would feel more confident crossing on an iron bridge rather than one made of jute. It is a pretty bridge.
