The ancient Anantheshwara Temple at Udupi has great spiritual and historical significance. This temple has been considered as seat of learning since ages for study of Veda, Vedanta, Upanishads. It was this place where Shri Madhwacharya obtained his early lessons.
The architecture of the temple is very unique and this style of construction can be seen in Southern Karnataka and Kerala. The temple has typical sloping roofs.
It was believd that on the request of Lord Shiv that Lord Parashurama also enshrined inthe Linga in the form of Lord Anantha and hence the name Anantheshwara.
The backside of the temple is curved with small windows at intervals.

Nice to know about this temple.
What a gorgeous temple.
I like the wee little windows. I guess "they" didn't want anyone to escape! :)
The rounded sloping roof is so nice. This looks to be quite large but with wee little windows. Nice touch of red.
Interesting temple and so different from the ones you usually share with us!! Great post for the day, Rajesh! Enjoy your weekend!!
Very interesting temple. I wouldn't have realized those small windows if you hadn't pointed them out.

First time I've seen a temple shaped like this.
Dark and Thorny Way
This temple is not what other temple looks like, right? This is more likely a modern one. But the structural is one of a kind.
Gorgeous.

This temple looks quite different to me from many of the other temples...very beautiful, though.
My ruby post is a bowl of New Orleans crawfish!
