Jodhpur (State: Rajasthan) has many historical monuments of interest. One of them is Jaswant Thada, located on the long road that takes one to the Mehrangarh Fort.
This monument is built by Sardar Singh in 1899 in memory of Maharja Jaswanth Singh II. This ornamental cenotaph is entirely built using white marble. It is a traditional cremation ground of Jodhpur rulers.
The above image was taken from the fort. The monument in the empty hilly region is Jaswant Thada.

ReplyDeleteWonderful capture, Rajesh! The monument and the view from the fort are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI am so sad today, Rajesh, and even these wonderful photos don't cheer me up. I was supposed to be boarding a flight this morning, heading to India, connecting to Air France, via Paris, for Mumbai and a six month stay. My ill health the past few weeks made me chang my plans. Last time, it was my mother's stroke. I'm not hoping for Oct 2011 if I can tear myself away from my first grandchild who will arrive in July.
ReplyDeleteLocation is superb.
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me to think these awesome monuments are built high on a hilltop when so little machinery was there to help in the hard work.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed by how large it is...and the white marble is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful monument and information. Great shots.
ReplyDeleteIt must look great in a closer look too - with white marble and this beautiful architecture.
ReplyDeleteHappy SSS!

ReplyDeleteWow. A building made of all marble. Amazing. Singh is a pretty common name here in the USA...I'm guessing it must be like the equivelant of Smith or Jones. Lovely ShadowShots.
ReplyDeleteI've been there too, it's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe temple’s outlook is very beautiful and that’s a wonderful shot captured from this distance!
ReplyDeleteAmazing pics, the second one gives a birds eye view of the magnificient city!!
