Bangalore Public Transport

Bangalore (State: Karnataka) has reasonably good public transport system. The main mode of local transport are auto rickshaws and buses. People who can afford can also choose variety of metered taxis. The local travel by train is still in infancy stage with the construction of Metro still in progress.

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) runs bus services for traveling within the city. It has added or replaced its fleet of buses with the introduction of new buses. The service has been upgraded with the introduction of air-conditioned buses.

If one knows time required to travel before hand and are familiar with the routes, then these buses are the best mode of transport. The air-conditioned Volvo or Marcopolo buses are favorite mode of transport for people especially those who travel long distance to reach the office. These buses run on time and people can reach office at the right time.

Daily and monthly passes are available for regular and Volvo services. Different passes are also available for Senior citizens.

  3. I also saw the Red Volvo a/c buses in the city, even in Chennai these buses are introduced long age. These Volvo buses are gift to elders and disabled who feel difficult to climb the old higher in step buses. I wish people drive senseless should stop and follow the traffic rules and fast driving should be controlled except those, Bangalore is a wonderful city to live.

  7. It's good to know that Bangalore is making improvements to its public transportation system. Public transportation is something that we don't have in so many parts of this country. Those new air-conditioned buses sound wonderful.

  19. It appears as though the buses are not only an effective means of transportation, but an effective means of reflecting the sky!

    RED SKY IN MORNING

    Red sky in morning,
    Sailors take warning!

Who knows what might happen out on the sea?
    Waves riding high,
    Waves to the sky,
Waves crashing and dashing all over me!

    Red sky at night,
    Sailors delight!

    Leeward or windward we sail with no fear;
    Water is calm,
    Healing like balm—
Ahoy, fellow sailors, landfall is near!

  22. Thanks for the nice comment. Buses are not a big part of transportation in Wichita, Kansas anymore. As a teenager, I used to ride the bus with my friends on a Saturday morning downtown to shop, have lunch, and go to a movie, I think those were called "the good old days". Have a lovely weekend. 34. I do envy you such a fine system of transportation. We have nothing like that here in Ocala which means everyone drives a car (or two!) which means lots of junk in the air and traffic jams!

Sounds like it's worth the investment of time to learn the schedules. Sometimes it helps to be a frequent rider, even if you don't get points.
