This masjid inside the Citadel of Champaner, in Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park is one of the many beautiful mosque built during the reign of Mahmud Begda between 15th and 16th century.
It is rectangular on plan with a double storeyed main prayer hall. There are two minarets on either side of the central arched entrance.
The windows provided with pillared balcony are beautiful and exquisitely decorated. The minarets are beautifully carved and niches are filled with floral and geometrical designs.
Originally the mosque had three domes built above the prayer hall but the largest central dome has collapsed.
One can also see the birds in the open space around this place.

Beautiful. But it is interesting to notice that the lower portion of this monument, the intricate art work resembles very much of a temple.

ReplyDeleteRajesh...Your posts continue to amaze me as they take me through your ancient and beautiful country. This is an amazing structure. I am assuming the other two domes are still intact which in itself would be amazing. And what a nice bird you spotted. It is a quiet place and a safe place for him to stop for a wee rest. genie
ReplyDeleteDespite the collapse of the central dome it looks remarkably well preserved. The angle on your first photo shows the building beautifully.
