The fort in Pavagadh has several gates on all directions. Close to one of of the gates on the Western side is Sat Kaman or the 7 arches. This is up on the hill just 4 kms from the base of the hill. This area is part of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park.
This arches are built using local sandstone. The individual stones used to build the arches are trapezium shaped, and when they are assembled together they form an arch. The topmost stone in the arch is wedge shaped.
They were built somewhere between 15th and 16th century. At Present out of the 7 arches only 6 arches are remaining as one has been lost to the fury of nature over the period of time.

ReplyDeleteThat architecture looks very Roman :) I think 15th and 16th-century architecture bears the similar Moorish and Roman influence..For instance, those arches are a typical example of medieval era :)
