The last time I was photographed with an elephant in the background was when I was still in kindergarten. That was more than two decades ago. Suddenly, I miss my father.
Thanks for this post. Those happy moments instantly flashbacked to me.

I am happy they have space. We loved visiting zoos when our kids were little, because, as you say, it is a way for them to see and learn to love the animals. As we have aged we are no longer so fond of zoos (even though there are some really excellent ones that provide plenty of natural-like space and work hard on preserving endangered species.) So now I have mixed feelings about them. It's a real gray area
I know how important elephants have been to the history of India, Rajesh. These ones really live a life of ease, don't they? Thanks for sharing them with us! -- K

hmm nice I am glad the animals are well looked after .. i remember going to a zoo in india long time back and the animals looked so starved and had so less space ..
Very nice photos. India has good traditions with elephants. When I thought about E, yes, there was elephant in my mind. They are such great creatures. Some days ago I prepared my post for today. It is the elephant, too.
Elephants are sensitive intellectual creatures and if it weren't for Zoos containing any wild animals for the public to see, many would of perish without the help of the educational and science behind many different types of animals/mammals that so many of us would of ever knew about at how to conserve their habits and more.
This is a good post for the letter E. Also Elephants are one my most favorite creatures on earth
Namma mysooru zoo is a lot better maintained than other zoos in the country and its always a pleasure to walk through the huge wooded gardens which almost give a sense of being in a forest.....can never tire of watching elephants, anywhere.
Great pictures ... Mysore zoo seems to be one of the progressive ones. The one in Mumbai is really sad. I haven't been there in ages. Hopefully they have managed to be a little more sensitive towards the animals. Cheers, Madhu
Zoos I think are necessary evils. Wonderful but sad places that can teach us to love our animal brothers and sisters. Your photos are wonderful.
ReplyDeletegreat pictures...nice to see so much open space unlike others Zoos...
