Shaniwar Wada in Pune cannot be missed by any tourist at it is at the center of the city. Built in 1732, it is the residence of the Peshwas. This place in the ancient time had beautiful garden around the palace. Now there is only glimpse of past glory.
The garden had remarkable fountains in those days.
I have captured some of the flowers that had bloomed in the garden during my visit to the place.

Your second photo shows how magnificent those gardens must have been. The remaining flowers are still beautiful.

I love gardens, and this one is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine it must be very costly to keep up a place like this. Although I read recently that India had a large number of new billionaires last year! Maybe one of them could buy it and renovate it to its past glory? :-)
ReplyDeleteThe garden is more attractive than the building which is quite severe and fortress-like, very unlike Indian traditional architecture, but it's different and interesting to see another side in a way!
ReplyDeleteamazing capture...love the flowers...
ReplyDeleteSad to lose the beauty of the past, but there is still some there to see and your photos are wonderful as always, Rajesh! Love the colorful flowers and can just imagine how much colorful beauty was there before! Have a wonderful weekend with your family!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Shanivaar Wada (or Peth?) was indeed an important area of Pune as the seat of the Peshwas. The last photograph seems to be a wild growth though these plants are now being cultivated with some kind of genetic engineering to bring out flowers with different colors.
