Mysore Zoo is the most popular zoo at Mysore in India. There are various wild animals and birds at the zoo. One among them are Vulturine Guineafowl.
Vulturine Guineafowl is a large bird with a round body and small head. It is longer in the wings, neck, legs and tail than other guineafowl.
The adult has a bare blue face and long bare black neck and head. The slim neck projects from a cape of long, glossy, blue and white hackles. The breast is cobalt blue, and the rest of the body plumage is black, finely spangled with white.

Beautiful pictures. I presume, they were domesticated in the past.
ReplyDeleteWell hidden from lens.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh this is incredible. I've never seen nor heard of this bird. Do join us with linking this post up today at noon at the Bird D'Pot meme ---the link is on my right sidebar "I'd Rather B Birdin'"
ReplyDeleteso interesting!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly has that "vulture" look! I'm wondering if it cleans up dead stuff?
ReplyDeleteVery similar to our African Guineas, minus the familiar horn on top.
ReplyDeleteInteresting bird. I didn't make it to the zoo when I was in Mysore but saw the beautiful palace and an incredible temple nearby.
ReplyDeleteI leave June 1 for six weeks in India.

What an amazing bird, Rajesh! Its cape of hackles is gorgeous, but its face definitely looks more like a vulture. I didn't know such a bird existed. Thanks for the lesson!
ReplyDeleteK
I love those patterned feathers on it!
ReplyDeleteLovely shots. The feathers are beautiful, but I'm not sure I would call the head/face beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very unusual-looking bird with such a small head. The colors are pretty, however.
ReplyDeleteWhat a very strange bird. Thank you for showing it to us.
ReplyDeleteGuinea fowls look so colorful...and behind those dry long grasses they look even more brighter! Lovely capture...
ReplyDeleteNice clicks. Haven't heard much about this bird. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteHappy WBW to you!
Lovely to see... many thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of an interesting bird.
ReplyDeleteThat spangled plumage makes up for the less that beautiful head and neck. Thanks for the idea of going to the zoo for some wild bird photos--a good place to find some exoctics that may never get to see in natural habitat.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting bird!
ReplyDeleteA little like a children's book of mixed animals where the pages are split in half and you can mix upper and lower halves at will. Great that you spotted it with all that camouflage.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking bird, nice to see them in their element. I think that we have some at our large zoo~
ReplyDeleteLooks of a naughty one...mysore zoo is our favourite
ReplyDeleteGod must be an artist to delightfully paint in so many colors.Quite a capture!
