Mulbagal is a small town just off the National Highway 4 near Kolar. "Mulbagilu" means the "eastern door" in the native Kannada language as in the olden days it was the easternmost frontier of the state of Mysore.
Mulbagal was also the eastern gate to the Vijayanagara Empire in the ancient times.
