Olakneswara Temple, Mahabalipuram

Mahabalipuram is famous for finely carved rock cut shrines. Adjacent to the hill on which there is a lighthouse, there is a superb rock-cut shrine of Mahishasuramardini Mandapa.

On top of the diorite hillock where the cave is present is an another ancient shrine, Olakneswara Temple.

It was closed when we were there. On the exterior walls it had beautiful carvings.

Passei para uma visitinha.
Belo click!...
O que me deixa mais encantada são esses templos e outras edificações esculpidas nas montanhas.
Ricamente decorados e esculpidos... são testemunhos que devemos cuidar e respeitar mais a natureza...
Boa semana!
Beijos.

Hi Rajesh, I'm always amazed at India's intricately carved structures. Those people on top of the rock better watch their step!

Amazing carvings. Do they let you up near the scaffolding, or is it off limits?

Thank you all for appreciating the craftsmanship.

Those railings are for protecting the people from falling off when going around the temple.
