Onam Flower Decorations

Onam is the rice harvest festival and the Festival of Rain Flowers. It marks the Asura King Mahabali's annual visit to the earth. It is in the honor of King Mahabali, affectionately called Onathappan, that Onam is celebrated. As part of the ritual people arrange the flowers in various patterns.

That's a lovely arrangement - it reminds me of my time living in Holland, where flowers were very important.

That is an amazing accomplishment...reminds me a bit of the mandalas I've seen at Buddhist temples. So much work goes into them but they are seldom kept long. They're made of colored sand.
