Chennai, Automobile Capital of India

Chennai, the capital of state of Tamil Nadu is known for its cultural heritage and temple architecture. It is the industrial and commercial center as well as it is a major cultural, economic and educational center in South India.

In the ancient period it was under the control of Chola and Pallava Dynasty, but modern city arose from the British settlement of Fort St. George. Later surrounding villages were merged along with it to become what it today a metropolitan city.

It is the "Automobile Capital of India", as forty percent of the automobile industry is based out of this place and major portion of the nation's vehicles are produced there.

Places of interest here are:
Getting around the heart of Chennai city often takes time, due to traffic and heavy congestion. This problem has increased because of construction work in progress for Chennai Metro.

Of all things I would never have thought of, the fact that your country has an 'automobile capital' may be the top one. I'm woefully ignorant. Now that I think of it, of course you have to have manufacturing. The carvings as always are beautiful, I love the touches of blue.

Well all of those temples, beaches and public building are pretty impressive! I've heard that the traffic is difficult, though. I guess you Chennai is like what our Detroit used to be. :)

Rajesh, thanks for stopping by my blog, and thank you for another aspect of India. You know, it might be damaging to those gorgeous feats of architecture, the pollution from all the cars. Hope they take good care of the treasures. What an amazing list of sights! Peace, my friend. Amy

It's wonderful that this city has been able to preserve its cultural history even as it has been transformed into a modern metropolis.
