Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore

Vidhana Soudha located in Bangalore  is a magnificent building that resembles nothing less than a palace. But it is the seat of the state legislature of Karnataka.

Kengal Hanumanthaiah is architect of this beautiful structure and it got completed in 1956. The  sryle is Neo-Dravidian, and incorporates elements of Indo-Saracenic and Dravidian styles.

It has 4 floors above the ground and one floor below ground level. It coveres an area of 2,300 by 1,150 feet. Its eastern face has a porch with 12 granite columns, 40 feet tall. Leading to the foyer is a flight of 45 steps.

The central dome, 60 feet in diameter, is crowned by a likeness of the Indian national emblem. The front of the building is inscribed with the words Government's Work is God's Work.

Hello Rajesh
Architecturally magnificent and I admire the inscription.
But sadly politicians don't always live up to their ideals.
Visiting from Mosaic Monday.

Indian architecture is always magnificent and beautiful ... and full of detail. These are great pictures, Rajesh. And as for thr inscription on the building ... I wish someone would tell our government that ... they are not working at all. Sad to say. Your country is beautiful and I am so enjoying learning about it through you. Good job ...

Wow: "Government's Work is God's Work." That is quite a statement. It seems my America is concerned with keeping God out of government (and I can understand the reasons), but our legislators forget the reason WHY they are there. Taking care of the poor and those in need IS our work because it is God's work. A small moment in a beautiful post, but I wanted to elaborate. Beautiful, Rajesh, as always. Amy
