There are many palaces, temples and gardens inside this huge fort complex. At the top most point in the fort is the palace known as Badal Mahal or the Palace of Cloud. 
The palace was rebuilt by Rana Fateh Singh in the late 19th century. The legendary ruler Maharana Pratap was born here. The palace has colorful rooms. Unfortunately we could not see them as it was closed when we were there. This palace is very different, when compared to rest of the raw and grim fortress. 
The entrance of the palace has beautiful carvings. Even the wooden door of the palace is also carved beautifully.

It's really hard to comprehend something this massive and complicated! Sounds like the king must have had some powerful enemies to build such a fortification!

The fort walls ranks second longest in the world after the Great Wall of China.

The doors look HUGE in the third photo. I continue to be amazed by the architecture and the amount of work that must have gone into building such structures without modern tools.

36 kms is a lot of walls, makes me wonder how many people worked on these sites over a period of time and the building is so white and clean

This looks like it would be a fascinating place to visit and explore, although it would probably take several days to do it justice. The exterior of the palace is beautiful -- I can only imagine what the interior looks like.
