Javeri Temple, Khajuraho

The Javeri Temple built between 950 - 1150 A.D belongs to the Eastern Group of Khajuraho Temples (State: Madhya Pradesh). This is one of the three Hindu Temples built by rulers of Chandel Dynasty in this group.

This temple is a architectural gem. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Its ornate gateway, the makara torana, and slender shikhara are especially noteworthy.

Like every other temple in Khajuraho, even this temple is also famous for the band of sculptures around the temple.

This is rear view of the temple.

NIce post. Khajuraho is a great treat to eyes even though a big number out of these group of temples have been lost to time.
On a funnier note .. I quite like the way the full family poses for a picture that goes into the family albums!

Beautiful beautiful temple. (And once again I am laughing at myself since today we were marveling at homes that were built in the 1700s -- here in New England! (What can I say -- we don't really know what ancient beauty is over here, especially on the West Coast USA where we're from!)

I am just amazed at historial buildings that have such details in their architecture. And they didn't have the technology we have now...

Rajesh,

The sheer beauty of these temples is beyond belief. So many of us go through our whole lives never realizing what beauty exists outside our own narrow existences. I am so thankful I have learned a little of the treasure of India. Thank you for showing me so much beauty in your part of the world.
