Indragiri, Shravanabelagola

At Shravanabelagola there are two huge hillocks and the larger hill is known as Indragiri or Vindhyagiri that rises about 470 feet above the plain.

The hillock has to be climbed barefoot through dual flight of steps of about 800 steps cutout of granite rock leading to the summit.

The entire area of this hill has been divided into two parts by a heavy wall at some distance close to the summit.

The places of interest on this hillock as one climbs up are:

A map of the monuments in this hillock are shown above.

This sounds like a very interesting place to visit, but I'm not sure I could make it up those 800 steps!

That is quite a large amount of steps! I wonder if I'd be able to do the climb.

Oh Rajeesh, another most interesting post! We are heading to India next month, stopping in Cochin and Mumbai on a cruise we are taking. . .well, stopping if we get those India visas soon, that is. Any recommendations for us in either of those port cities? Thanks! Jackie

Barefoot? Ow! ( I assume it is a religious reason, wish you would explain more!). I always think I will google for answers to my questions, when I have more time, but I seldom remember to do so.)

Wow! That is a long climb up so many stairs. If I did that my legs would be shaking afterward. I bet the view from the top is spectacular. Did you get a photo from the top?

I think that the bare foot approach would put me off.

It looks like a challenge!
