At Shravanabelagola there are two huge hillocks and the larger hill is known as Indragiri or Vindhyagiri that rises about 470 feet above the plain.
The hillock has to be climbed barefoot through dual flight of steps of about 800 steps cutout of granite rock leading to the summit.
The entire area of this hill has been divided into two parts by a heavy wall at some distance close to the summit.
The places of interest on this hillock as one climbs up are:

This sounds like a very interesting place to visit, but I'm not sure I could make it up those 800 steps!
That is quite a large amount of steps! I wonder if I'd be able to do the climb.
Great Gomateswara !
What an interesting place to visit.. I would have a hard time climbing barefoot. Awesome monuments. Thanks for sharing, have a happy week!
I reckon that would be a wonderful achievement to climb to the top, barefoot would be an additional challenge for me!! :)

Oh Rajeesh, another most interesting post! We are heading to India next month, stopping in Cochin and Mumbai on a cruise we are taking. . .well, stopping if we get those India visas soon, that is. Any recommendations for us in either of those port cities? Thanks! Jackie
That is quite a commitment to climb the hill and 800 steps...well worth it!
Nice post.
Barefoot? Ow! ( I assume it is a religious reason, wish you would explain more!). I always think I will google for answers to my questions, when I have more time, but I seldom remember to do so.)
Wow, that would be a tough climb.
Lovely images. Thanks for sharing the beauty of India with us!

Awesome shots! A little bit on the history of the monuments or links to more info would be ideal :)
Wow! That is a long climb up so many stairs. If I did that my legs would be shaking afterward. I bet the view from the top is spectacular. Did you get a photo from the top?
What a wonderful place!
Climbing those steps is definitely an uphill task but it's worth..
I really like, an awesome place, nice pictures !!
This hill looks awesome as do the sculptures and columns.

I think that the bare foot approach would put me off.
It looks like a challenge!

Wow! I ever seen a hillock with number of place to interesting... and it sound adventurous and tough to climbing 800 steps, without footwear on the hot rocks! Amazing shots and perspective!
I think you would have to build up those calf muscles before attempting that climb.
