Lakshman Jhula in Rishikesh is the famous hanging bridge across the river Ganga. The bridge is 450 feet long and is situated at a height of 70 feet from the river.
As per mythological tales, once Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Rama, crossed river Ganga at the same site using a suspension bridge, made of jute.
Hence the bridge came to be known as ‘Lakshman Jhula’. The present bridge is a iron bridge that was built in 1939.

You remind me so many beautiful memories again...
I imagine that bridge really sways as you walk across.
amazing captures
Wonderful pictures on the bridge bearing a story on locale.
Just beautiful Rajesh....but I tell you what, I don't think I'd be gazing up at the sky much while I walked on that bridge. I'd be watching my feet and hanging on for dear life probably!
are those temples at the bank of the river? i sure hope you will show those to us one of these days.
This puts my swinging bridges of our county to shame. Oh, my goodness...I an not the least bit afraid of bridges like this, but I would not like to be on there with kids who start jumping up and down. Awesome captures. genie
Nice pictures. Beautiful reflections in the clear waters of the river, it seems very good!
Hi Rajesh
vedere in questa foto un ponte moderno contro un tempio così antico è di grande impatto visivo !

Awesome bridge and it does look like a great day in spite of the pale skies that I've come to expect of India!! Great shots, Rajesh, as always!!
i heard story about this Jhula, when it was actually a rope bridge from my father. He has the experience of traveling on that rope bridge. he went there long ago in his young age.
The last shot a wonderful frame of memory.

Thank you all for liking this old bridge.
I think I would feel more confident crossing on an iron bridge rather than one made of jute. It is a pretty bridge.
