Coot at Ooty

We came across many birds during our visit to Ooty. We spotted many water birds while boating  in the Ooty Lake.  One of them is Coot.

Coots are small water birds. They have predominantly black plumage with red to dark red eyes and colored bills.

They are omnivorous, and they mainly eat plant material along with small animals and eggs.

How interesting that Coots in India look quite similar to those we have in Canada!

I have been there as a young man, but didn't know much about Coots :)

Lovely capture and well spotted them in water! Good to see birds still doing great at the busy ooty lake

They're the same everywhere -- we used to see them in Oregon.

I posted about a coot this time, too. They remind me of a duck. I guess they are kin.

Great to see a bird we have here too. Can't wait to see those odd looking chicks in the spring.

Neat pictures. That name Ooty sounds amusing next to the word coot.
